HKAS Best Graduation Work Award

I’m glad to announce that I have won a Best Graduation Work award for Bank of Blank in Higher Diploma in Communication Design Programme in Hong Kong Art School.

Heal Our Earth

In the end of 2009, I tried to preserve the humanity of people around me by posting. The objective is to encourage the people around me to send a real card to whom they care and share with others what they concern.

One part of the christmas card is about my blessings to the recipients. The other part is about the wish of the recipients to Mr.earth. The recipients would be guided to make a wish through their drawings to Mr.earth, and share with me their thoughts about the planet we are living by returning this half to me.

Thanks to all participants. Concept
Hong Kong is a place with excellent living conditions, ample resources and robust economy growth, making it ideal to nurture home-grown talents. However, the reality is most people in Hong Kong are money-oriented and materialistic. They are short-sighted, lack of a life goal and no motivation to move up, all they have in their eyes are “MONEY”. The societal impact as a result of such is a halt to the development…
The primary objective of this program is to make them understand their lives should not be only about “MONEY”. By having a vision, they should be able to find their own life goal and their long-forgotten dream.

Solution
I believe everyone has their own dream. Sometimes, we may just be afraid of being defied or are in lack of confidence, we drop the idea of making our dream a reality.  Therefore, I am here to offer everyone a platform where they will be encouraged to realize and save their dream. The operation of this platform is similar to the banking one, it will act as an intermediary. The platform will allow users to interact, conduct experience sharing and help one another to realize their dream. To kick off their own plan, they just need to pick an “Element” as the goal they would like to achieve.

意圖
香港擁有優良的生活條件，物質充裕，經濟發展蓬勃。一切良好的環境配套之下本應可以孕育出一些土生土長的人才，就因為人們活於這個大溫室裡，反而令到大多數人都變得過份地現實，變成一個個物質主義者、拜金主義者。人們只餘下金錢至上的觀念，眼光短淺狹窄，自然感到人生沒有明確目標，缺乏前進動力。最終只會令整個社會都停滯不前……
現藉此計劃希望他們能重新尋找到人生目標，尋找到內心深處的理想或夢想，亦即是他們原本被遺忘了的目標。亦令他們知道自己能走自己的路而不是活著只為了賺多少錢、為了擁有多少物質，將他們的視野擴濶、目光放遠。

解決方案
既然每個人心中都有一些夢想想要達到，但說出口又怕被人取笑或心裡欠缺了某些東西所以沒有嘗試實踐。現在如果有一個平台能助他們一臂之力，相信有一定的影響力！而這個平台是要將他們的夢實體化，再將之儲存。這個系統參考了現實的銀行其中一種運作模式，作為一個中間人的角色。用家可以於此平台上作經驗上或技術上交流，互相幫助大家達成不同的夢。用家需要選取我們其中一個產品“Element”代表他自己對於夢想的缺失，方便於此平台上作分類及應用。

Users can record the every single effort of dream-realizing onto the passbook to facilitate self-monitor, evaluation and needed adjustment.

用家可以為自己實踐夢想的每一個過程透過直接打印到存摺上，記錄於自己的夢想儲蓄戶口裏，除了方便隨時檢閱外，還可不時評估實踐進度，需要時作出調整。

The layout of this Concept Store is the same as that of Online Service, with different elements surrounding the service counter. The Service Counter is used for processing and in rectangular shape which is echo to the logo.

概念店的佈局是與Online Service的一樣，不同的原素圍繞著櫃檯，最後用家到櫃檯辦理手續。當然櫃檯亦是以方框樣式設計。

Users can retrieve the saved dreams of, share experience among and assist one another in realizing one’s own dream. In the home page, users only need to drag and drop the particular element into the blanket to review the experience by others. This blanket is part of the logo, representing the restriction-free context for users to realize the dream.

用家可於此平台上找尋到其他用家儲存了的夢想，根據分類作經驗上或技術上交流，互相幫助大家達成不同的夢。首頁需要用家 drag & drop 那些原素到框內，進行查閱其他用家擁有相同原素的經歷。而那方框就是Logo代表能讓人實踐夢想的空白環境。

Bank of Blank :[Elements]

First, users have to decide the dream they pursue; second, to find out the missing elements needed; third, to buy that particular element from the Bank of Blank; last but not least, to save your dream in the platform. The Bank of Blank offers nine different types of product, namely, confidence, space, direction, passion, patience, concentration, imagination, inspiration and devotion. The list of the products can be extended to suit the increasing needs of users.

用家可先決定自己所要追尋的夢想，繼而找出實踐此夢想所欠缺的原素，並從銀行中購入這個原素及將閣下的夢想儲存於這個平台裏。 我們分別有以下九種不同種類可供選擇：自信、空間、方向、熱情、耐性、專注、想像力、原動力及付出。之後亦會根據用家的需要增加更多的種類可供選擇。

This is my graduation project in Hong Kong Art School in 2009. Now you can see the identity developed from this project.

“WHITE” is pure, natural, space…To me, “WHITE” is a container of dream, a container that will hold the imagination/feeling of every single individual.  It is also an indefinite space allowing you to take a break and escape from the sometimes disgusting secular world.  “WHITE” is an indispensable tool to intrigue the otherwise hidden dreams.

白是純淨的，自然的。亦是一個空間。讓觀者任意地將自己的想像和感覺都放進白。所以我將白定為是人們夢想的容器，代表了未知結果的夢想本身。亦給予現存物質過盛的世界一個休止的地方，整個計劃就靜靜地利用白去誘發人們潛在對夢想的熱忱。

The word “WHITE” in Chinese is formed with a box and two dots.  Putting the two dots outside signifies the extension of one’s mindset beyond restrictions. Transforming the box into a blanket to maximize the “WHITE” space allows one to make the impossible to possible and to realize the dream without any restriction.

利用「白」字中間兩處的負空間組成兩點，並將其放於框外，代表思想脫離實體的限制，而方框是一個空白的環境讓人盡情實踐內心的夢想，將本來的不可能轉化為可能。

Pyramid Sports

Developed a new identity for Pyramid Sports, a Hong Kong Based agency for sport services. It presents the spirit of sport, the spirit of Pyramid Sports, “Don’t stop until the finish line”.

Normal System 1.0 Released

Normal System is a Theme for iPod Touch/iPhone.

A hundred, a thousand themes we can download from the internet now, but I can’t find one that’s good enough for me. 

Icons for a system should be easily identify and understand in a short time, even they don’t need a caption. Another thing is, a theme style should have a nice relationship with the device, so normal as normal is the best style already. Clean, simple, easy recognize, normal with aesthetic, all “Normal System” shown.

In 1.0, I made not much icons for so many software, if its not working properly please tell me. I’ll update more icons and UI later on.

ReDesign Paper Shredder

This Project is based on ReDesign by Kenya Hara to redesign something for daily use.

A paper shredder, we can find it in any office. However, I can’t see any improvement for it in these years. So I tried to change its process, meaning and the users experience, from putting paper into a shredder for destroying to for growing grass in the pot. Also enhanced its outlook, let it be a potted plant.

Lovely Juice

This is a experimental Packaging project.

All we need is love, how can I let the user feeling love when they drink the juice?  I created Ms. Juicy as a packaging of juice, users have to kiss her every time when drink it. It also has a further development for different races and sex. How lovely!

Thanks Anson to be a demonstrator in the lesson, he can show the love with Ms. Juicy in the air!

ATARI video game console Concept

2nd Generation (reset & open buttons, 4 plugs for controller removed)

This is a conceptual ATARI video game console for CIVA graduation project in 2003.

The prototype placed on my desk recently, and my friend said “its cool!~is it a disc player?” when he saw it. So, I think its not bad that still seems fine after few years.

New Cursive Type

New Cursive Type is a font set based on Chinese Traditional Cursive Writing.

I was trying to enhance its legibility and consistent of structure. Moreover, I modernized its strong style from Traditional Cursive Writing.

I still remember that day of making this font, a typoon arrived and I was bringing a huge calligraphy dictionary back home in heavy raining…Now, it selected in Applied Typography vol.18 2008.

Art is… Poster

It is a try of merging with computer graphics and hand drawing.
I created a growing plant to describe art is a process of a human growth. The huge tree and flowers representing our ideas, works and results of making art, they are also standing for our soul. A human being underground is illustrated the artist behind that he is giving all nutrients from his brain to the tree.

Save the forests, save the world Poster

caption: Deforestation is often cited as one of the major causes of the enhanced greenhouse effect.Trees and plants remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during the process of photosynthesis. Both the decay and burning of wood releases much of this stored carbon back to the atmosphere. And it caused by humans is estimated to contribute to 1/3 of all carbon dioxide.

Losing My Ground Poster

This is a experimental typography project.I was using poster color to write the words “Losing my Ground” on a water surface, and captured the most beautiful and readable moments before they mixed with water.

“Where do I go? What do I do? Who do I turn to? Who am I now? Where does it end? How did it all begin? I’m losing my ground, and don’t wanna go back there…”

電子緣 Poster

caption: 你好嗎？是你嗎？會是你嗎？

“電腦的即時傳訊工具令人們虛幻地拉近，但卻蠶食了人與人之間的接觸。用了電子的字句、的符號代替自己的情感，換來假象、 換來不真實、換來空虛……到了這個地步，咱們應好好珍惜大家面對面的對話。”
這是原來的一篇是比較貼近自己本人意願的，但感太負面而作出了改動 ，而caption亦都改成現在這樣。

“我們現今變得疏離，人與人見面的機會漸漸失去。不過我們的聯繫還未失去…每天與友人問好，結識素未某面的人，尋找命中的那一個。於網絡世界中仍能感到大家的情感。我們的緣份只是換了令一種形式繼續在世界的每一個角落流動著，永無間斷…… ”
而這是最後寫去參賽的description。

David and Goliath Poster

用大衛與巨人的聖經故事比喻中小企面對大企業所面對的情況。大衛用了一顆石頭將巨人歌利亞打敗，其實石頭武器背後最重要的是他的智慧與無懼。不過連攻擊武器都沒有的話一切都只是徒然，所以走上戰場時一定要有腦有本錢。右上方刪除了引用故事中的對話”I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts” 貼上”with Brain”，藉此帶出人是獨立思想而非每次都是以父之名的。
